Special Interest Session SIS 66 14:00 > 15:00 SIS 66 Integrating ITS into Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning: Capacities and insights from Türkiye ÇAMLICA Special Interest Session

Across Türkiye, cities are rapidly expanding their use of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and increasingly adopting Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) as a strategic framework for mobility. This session will explore how the deployment of ITS, data governance, and modelling can work together to build sustainable and resilient mobility systems. Drawing on international, national and regional perspectives, the session will highlight the integral role of data‑driven tools and ITS solutions in SUMPs. The session focuses on the results of the White Paper processes for cities in Türkiye, presented by the session moderator, followed by a focus on Istanbul’s SUMP Stage II, including its modelling approach, presented by the project Team Leader. The insights from the Deputy Manager of the Transportation Planning Directorate will focus on the city’s broader ITS strategy and its growing importance. The session concludes with a discussion on mobility data governance and interoperability frameworks. The presentations will be complemented by interactive discussions, including questions from the audience. By linking SUMP and ITS practices, the session provides cities with practical lessons on how to strengthen their planning capacity and accelerate the shift towards intelligent and sustainable mobility.
