European road networks are critical assets for mobility, safety, and economic growth — yet their maintenance still relies on reactive and fragmented approaches. The Horizon Europe project ESERCOM-D (EGNSS-enabled Standardised European Road Condition Monitoring and Distribution) pioneers a new paradigm for digital, standardised, and resilient infrastructure management. By combining GNSS/EGNSS high-accuracy positioning (Galileo HAS, OSNMA) with AI-based detection, mapping, and classification of road wear, ESERCOM-D enables the creation of digital road twins that support predictive maintenance, safety monitoring, and integration with connected and automated mobility (CCAM) systems. This session brings together experts from research, industry, and public authorities to discuss how road condition data can strengthen the resilience and safety of Europe’s transport networks. It will showcase use cases demonstrating how continuous monitoring and interoperable data sharing enhance decision-making, reduce maintenance costs, and improve safety for all road users. Participants will also explore standardisation challenges, cross-border data harmonisation, and future deployment pathways for GNSS-enabled road infrastructure services. By linking infrastructure intelligence with vehicle automation and digital twin technologies, this session aims to define the next steps toward a resilient, data-driven, and connected European road ecosystem.
