Floating Car Data (FCD) collected from connected vehicles is now a cornerstone of traffic services such as Safety-Related Traffic Information (SRTI) and Real-Time Traffic Information (RTTI). With millions of vehicles generating rich sensor data, the question is no longer if we can collect data, but how to turn it into dependable, verifiable information and services that road users – and increasingly automated driving functions – can trust. The Data for Road Safety (DFRS) ecosystem already operationalises this vision for SRTI in Europe, using SENSORIS as the de facto L2 data format for OEM data feeds.
This special interest session will explore how the next generation of the SENSORIS specification can take FCD-based services beyond today’s dynamic and static data landscape. It will present results of the joint TISA–SENSORIS Task Force, which has been working to harmonize the SENSORIS data model with the TPEG2 standard. The work focuses on concrete use cases where data quality, verification and validation are critical, such as validation of emergency and breakdown calls and reliable “end-of-queue” detection for congestion warnings.
A panel of experts from service providers and standardisation communities will discuss how next-generation FCD can support robust verification and validation processes for data services. The discussion will highlight how data quality indicators, confidence levels and provenance information can be embedded directly into the data value chain, enabling service providers to deliver more trustworthy services to drivers and automated driving functions.
