SIS 39 Floating bicycle data: What is the point?

28 April 2026
Special Interest Session, Multimodal mobility system management
Special Interest Session SIS 39 15:30 > 16:30 SIS 39 Floating bicycle data: What is the point? HAMIDYE Special Interest Session

The bicycling modality is on a massive rise, not only in the EU based on the recent cycling declaration by the commission, but globally. Authorities (cities, etc.) meet increasing expectations to parts of the infrastructure previously thought of as of minor relevance. Bicycling Insight, Knowledge and Evaluation (BIKE) is floating bicycle data (FBD) as a collaborative eco-system for bicycling data. The eco-system will build an strong foundation for the future of data driven decision support for bicycling. A challenge is how do we ensure that the eco-system has the necessary support, trust and strength, which is vital for a collaborative eco-system. The first two short presentations will focus on products or services for bicycles and the data produced. A specific byproduct - the traces of moving bicycles - is relevant to anybody trying to improve the bicycling experience and thus the modal share of bicycling. The last two will cover the use cases and already available possibilities when the BIKE eco-system provides data as presented by a city and a supplier. The remainder of the session will be an open discussion with panelists and attendees regarding open collaboration on future steps in the value-adding applications of bicycling related data.
