Special Interest Session
This Special Interest Session explores how Intelligent Transport Systems can be digitally orchestrated with Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans in medium-sized cities, using recent EU IPA-funded projects in Türkiye: Denizli ITS/SUMP and Düzce SUMP. The session will show how integrated land-use and transport models, accessibility-based tools and four-step transport models and activity-based transport models are used to design multimodal networks and to structure SUMP measure packages for public transport, walking, cycling, parking and traffic management. Denizli and Düzce cases will be presented using 2025–2040 modelling frameworks and SUMP measure packages, highlighting how traffic management, public transport priority, user information and parking systems act as a digital “orchestration layer” across the network. Düzce case will also be provided to assess the contrasting perspective from a smaller city with different data conditions and institutional capacity, focusing on phasing and governance of ITS deployment. Short scene-setting inputs from city, national, academic and industry speakers will be followed by a moderated debate and live polling with the audience. The session will emphasise achievements, remaining barriers and transferability of this integrated, data-driven approach to other cities.
