Digitalisation and the deployment of autonomous vehicles (AVs) are reshaping the mobility ecosystem, with profound implications for jobs, skills, and workforce planning across transport, logistics, automotive, and digital industries. As AVs continue to advance, Europe stands at a critical crossroads in terms of technological development, and how this transition reshapes employment, working conditions, and access to opportunities.
From engineering, AI development, and cybersecurity to legal frameworks, logistics operations, public transport and urban planning, AVs are expected to transform existing roles and create new ones across the entire value chain. However, this transformation raises an essential question: will it be inclusive? Without targeted action, existing structural challenges, particularly in STEM, technology, and transport sectors, risk being replicated or amplified in AV related jobs.
This interactive session, co-created by PAVE Europe and ERTICO – ITS Europe, will draw on insights and learnings from the industry strategies and research to explore how digitalisation and autonomous mobility are impacting skills and employment, and why inclusion and gender balance must be built into this roadmap from the very beginning.
Combining short expert inputs with live interaction and guided discussion, the session will move beyond trend analysis to focus on practical implications, concrete examples, and collaborative actions. The objective is to generate clear takeaways and actionable recommendations that support a future ready, inclusive, and resilient workforce in the era of digital and autonomous mobility.
