The integration of active mobility modes—walking, cycling, and micromobility—with public transport is increasingly vital for sustainable, accessible, and people-centered urban mobility. Multimodal transit hubs serve as key points where different transport modes converge, allowing passengers to continue their journeys seamlessly and efficiently.
This panel will explore effective integration of active mobility with public transport through urban infrastructure design, digital solutions, governance models, and micromobility services. It brings together local authority, academia, civil society, micromobility provider and international organization.
A case study from Istanbul’s Historic Peninsula will illustrate local government efforts to reduce vehicle pressure, create pedestrian-priority areas, and strengthen connections via rail, maritime transport and ring lines. Expanding pedestrian zones and improving visitor experience are also central goals.
The discussion will highlight how bicycle networks, e-scooter services and sustainable urban mobility strategies support these transformations. Participants will examine:
Local Government: Managing traffic in dense historic areas and enhancing public transport links.
Micromobility & Last-Mile Solutions: Facilitating access to transit hubs.
Bicycle Infrastructure & Civil Society: Promoting user-centered planning.
Academic Insights: Research on integrating active mobility into multimodal systems.
Global Experiences: Sharing best practices and policies for sustainable, human-centered urban transport.
