Special Interest Session
Cycling is becoming an increasingly important mode of transport in many European cities. Yet the digital cycling infrastructure (DCI) remains in its early stages compared with the digital representation available for other modes such as road or rail. A mature DCI is essential for road safety, effective traffic management, and efficient use of urban space, as it underpins key services ranging from routing and navigation to simulation, planning, and asset management. Developing and maintaining high-quality DCI requires close collaboration among public authorities, industry, data providers, service operators, and standardisation initiatives. This panel session will explore the emerging European framework for DCI by highlighting practical use cases, ongoing standardisation efforts, stakeholder collaboration platforms, and key EU initiatives such as NAPCORE and TISGRADE. The discussion will also link DCI developments with ongoing Connected and Cooperative Automated Mobility (CCAM) initiatives, demonstrating how integrated data supports safer, seamless mobility for all road users. The session will examine the road safety benefits of harmonised and interoperable DCI, as well as the commercial opportunities arising from a coordinated, multistakeholder approach. Speakers will outline strategies to accelerate the deployment of robust EU digital cycling infrastructure and foster growth in active mobility, ensuring cycling is fully integrated into the wider European digital mobility ecosystem.
