Special Interest Session
Achieving inclusive and affordable urban mobility means giving everyone access to zero-emission transport. This includes private cars, shared vehicles, and public transport. To make this possible, electrification must move beyond expensive, premium vehicles and focus more on affordable, practical models that serve everyday mobility needs. A key factor in making this shift possible is not only cheaper hardware but also a strong and standardized digital ecosystem. This session will explore how Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs), together with open data standards and system interoperability, can support more inclusive electric mobility. These digital tools can help expand access to affordable and connected transport, especially in urban, peri-urban, and rural areas where mobility options are limited. The session will focus on the digital and connectivity challenges of scaling large volumes of low-cost electric vehicles. It will show how software architecture, open standards, and real-time data exchange can support both economic and environmental goals for European mobility. For the ITS community, this discussion highlights how digital solutions can create real social and economic benefits. We will also look at how European initiatives, projects, and standards are building a common digital framework that helps integrate affordable electric mobility into everyday transport systems.
