Intelligent Transport Systems are the key for smart mobility, smart cities and smart technologies. The discussion on ITS has traditionally covered telematics, traffic management and automated driving. When did the sector start looking into aspects of sustainability and electromobility and why? Why is traffic management today touching upon topics such as governance and equity? Are these important or ‘nice to have’ really? The Session is a catch up on the latest developments in a sector that brings together technology and real life mobility. It aims to discuss in a not technical language the aspects of smart mobility, the modern definitions in ITS that make modern ITS different to how we perceived it 20 years ago and identify what is important and urgent. The Speakers will bring forward their professional expertise along with their personal stories on why and how what they work on is important. It has been a usual criticism of this sector that we all live in a bubble where we all get excited with technological developments but we fail to put the user in the centre of our work's attention. The Session will tell the ‘story of ITS’ from a number of different perspectives and will contribute towards bridging innovation by focussing on the benefits of ITS to not only science and technology through benefiting society.
