The session will look at the benefits of low-cost V2X (including vehicle to grid – V2G and vehicle to building – V2B) electric vehicle charging in terms of enabling mass-rollout and providing resilience to the power grid. V2X for charging is being trialled all over Europe at present, presenting opportunities to reduce impact on the power grid in different circumstances, such as at business sites (when vehicle usage is more planned), in rural and island locations (where power resilience can be an issue), for car sharing, etc. However barriers remain in terms of availability of V2X enabled vehicles and acceptance of the principle especially among private car drivers. The session will cover ways to reduce the costs of installing and operating EV charging infrastructure as well as building awareness and acceptance of V2X solutions. Examples will be taken from five EU-funded 2ZERO projects covering V2X for cars and public transport.
